The Cold Rinse is the Key to My Day
I wake up with a groan. “This is stupid” I mutter to myself as I stand up and stretch. After taking my first two steps, nerve pain electrifies my left hip shooting down to just past my knee. I will have this pain for the rest of the day, but the first thirty minutes of the day are the worst.
I am filled with depression, so I immediately make my bed so I don’t get back in it. A very important thing for me to do. Next, I head to the shower. It would be very easy not to do either one of these, very easy, but that would be a terrible way to set up the rest of my day. So I continue.
When I am finally done cleaning my body and have rinsed away the filth, I turn the hot water completely off. Now there is just a lazy stream of very cold water falling. I fill my hands and splash my face about six times. This feels good. I bend over and stick just my head in the stream. I am shocked by the cold and the sensitivity of my bald head. I stand up causing the cold water that has just been stored in my beard to fall down the front of my body. I get the chills in a good way.
My feet are next to get the shock because I have been standing far enough away at this point to shield them from the cold. I have teased myself enough by now and it is time to just walk in. So I do. Only for six seconds and then I turn the water off. That is my cold rinse. It is…
